3 Ways Abortion Seeks to Steal the Sovereignty and Glory of God

In January of 1973, the U.S. Supreme Court ruled in the case of Roe v. Wade, by a 7-2 vote, that unduly restrictive state regulation of abortion is unconstitutional. The court held that a set of Texas statutes criminalizing abortion in most instances violated a woman’s constitutional right of privacy, and thus, abortion in the United States became a legal operation.
Since the ruling of the landmark case of Roe v. Wade, we have watched the culture and society around us rally around the idea of the onslaught and termination of our own children. We have witnessed the systematization and increased methodology of the process of slaughtering our babies. We have had to endure living in a society - watching our people - seek the glorification of murder.
It is important for us to understand that abortion is far more than the killing off of fetuses - what a large part of our society calls the end of their woeful inconveniences and treats as a disease or a tumor. This aspect of abortion is a horror and a cause to take action, but it is not the worst aspect of abortion.
The most damnable characteristic of the action of abortion is that it seeks to cheapen and steal the sovereignty and glory of God. What organizations such as planned parenthood call "crucial care" is actually an attempted assault upon the sovereignty and glory of the King of kings and Lord of lords - the uncaused Cause that said, "Let their be!" and created everything in our universe from the unimaginable heat of the sun, to the breathtaking grandeur of the stars, down to the tiniest building block materials of our world.
Abortion is a horrific atrocity of our time that spits in the face of our God and seeks to assert its dominance. Here are three ways abortion seeks to steal the sovereignty and glory of the immortal God:
1. Abortion Seeks to Ruin the Image of God

Have you ever wondered why Satan has such an obsession with the demise of man? It seems like Satan stoops and lurks around every corner - salivating with evil anticipation - just waiting to devour us when he is given a chance. But, why? What fuels this wicked passion of his to tempt us and woo us into the clutches of sin?
I believe the answer to this question is a rather simple one: we are made in the image of God.
So God created man in his own image, in the image of God he created him; male and female he created them. (Genesis 1:27)
Scholars have debated for centuries as to what exactly this means. However, I do not think that it is necessary to get wrapped up in the disputed details of this argument to see the point that we are making here.
We were crafted in the image of an eternal God that is more magnificent than we could ever imagine. God personally and intimately formed us into the human beings that we are. If you hold a high view of God, this is a big deal.
Look at what God said of Himself through the prophet Isaiah:
"The grass withers, the flower fades when the breath of the Lord blows on it; surely the people are grass. The grass withers, the flower fades, but the word of our God will stand forever." (Isaiah 40:7-8)
"Who has measured the waters in the hollow of his hand and marked off the heavens with a span, enclosed the dust of the earth in a measure and weighed the mountains in scales and the hills in a balance? Who has measured the Spirit of the Lord, or what man shows him his counsel? Whom did he consult, and who made him understand? Who taught him the path of justice, and taught him knowledge, and showed him the way of understanding? Behold, the nations are like a drop from a bucket, and are accounted as the dust on the scales; behold, he takes up the coastlands like fine dust. Lebanon would not suffice for fuel, nor are its beasts enough for a burnt offering. All the nations are as nothing before him, they are accounted by him as less than nothing and emptiness." (Isaiah 40:12-17)
We could provide thousands of verses of Scripture that show how unimaginably amazing our God is (the whole earth proclaims His glory)!
He is beautiful. He is awesome. He is wonderful. He is all-knowing and all-powerful.
If every nation came together, and if all the kingdoms across the entire globe joined into one, with every gun, grenade, torpedo, and nuclear bomb mankind had to offer, and if they sought to launch an attack upon the almighty, it would not even be a pin prick to His glorious finger, and it would not alter even a millisecond of the divine play that He is playing out through human history.
And this is the image that we were created in. Please do not make the mistake of believing we are equal to God; we are not as glorious as God. However, He did choose to create us in this image of incomprehensible glory.
And this is why Satan detests us so - because he detests God.
Satan went after Adam and Eve in the garden because they were created in God's image. Adam and Eve were the most perfect specimen of God's creation; and they held the most intimate relationship with Him.
Satan desired to take down what was the closest and most precious to God - His crowning creation crafted in His image.
This is precisely what abortion seeks to do. Abortion seeks to link arms with the devil and ruin the image of God.
However, I suppose that we should be fair. What we are describing is the central root of the reason that murder is a sin in the first place. I cannot justifiably murder, hurt, or even speak unduly ill of another human being because they are created in the image of God.
But since abortion proudly wields the sword of murder as its prime instrument, we are not in error when we declare that abortion seeks to ruin the image of God.
Every time medical instruments enter the womb with the intent of pulling a precious life to pieces, there is an assault on the image of God. As the number of aborted babies increases, the mountain of judgment for abortion grows higher and higher.
At first, it would certainly appear as though abortion has greatly succeeded. It certainly seemed as though Satan had succeeded. He achieved his goal of deceiving man into his own damnation (Genesis 3) and he accomplished his pursuit of making mankind so wretched and wicked that God had to destroy them in a flood (Genesis 6-7).
Yes, abortion is declaring victory, just as Satan did.
But God declares otherwise. To those who think they are wise and discerning - those who have foolishly convinced themselves that they have thwarted God - He says,
For it is written, “I will destroy the wisdom of the wise, and the discernment of the discerning I will thwart.” (1 Corinthians 1:19 emphasis added)
Just as God has given Satan his time to foolishly believe that he is victorious and is reigning supreme, He is also giving abortion that liberty. However, God does so for His glory.
Because the eternal God, who was crucified on Calvary's hill, burst forth from the grave and declared Satan defeated. He stomped His sovereign heel onto the head of the serpent of old and declared HIS victory for the ages to come.
So, yes, abortion may be legal in the United States of America, and our society may laud it as a victory for freedom, but there will come a day of the Lord that will put victory in its rightful place. Christ will declare His majesty, every knee will bow, every tongue will confess, and Satan along with abortion - linked arm and arm - will be cast into the eternal fiery torment of hell where they belong.
2. Abortion Declares Itself the Author of Life

In the beginning, God created the universe, the world, and everything in it. With the simple expression of His voice, everything came into being.
For the creation of mankind, He was even more personal. He reached down into the dirt and molded together the first body. He breathed His breath into the lungs that He had just formed with His hands, and suddenly, the new formed heart began to beat. Suddenly, the new formed veins began to pulsate with blood.
God is the author of life. He has made that known from the very beginning. Scripture makes that clear:
Then God said, “Let us make man in our image, after our likeness. And let them have dominion over the fish of the sea and over the birds of the heavens and over the livestock and over all the earth and over every creeping thing that creeps on the earth.” So God created man in his own image, in the image of God he created him; male and female he created them. (Genesis 1:26-27)
"Then the Lord God formed the man of dust from the ground and breathed into his nostrils the breath of life, and the man became a living creature." (Genesis 2:7)
"For you formed my inward parts; you knitted me together in my mother’s womb. I praise you, for I am fearfully and wonderfully made. Wonderful are your works; my soul knows it very well. My frame was not hidden from you, when I was being made in secret, intricately woven in the depths of the earth. Your eyes saw my unformed substance; in your book were written, every one of them, the days that were formed for me, when as yet there was none of them." (Psalm 139:13-16)
“Before I formed you in the womb I knew you, and before you were born I consecrated you; I appointed you a prophet to the nations.” (Jeremiah 1:5)
But being the author of life, He also reserves the right to take away life. He does this, intentionally, in many instances throughout the Bible. He even intentionally and purposefully wiped out entire nations!
This is God's right. He can do this because He is the author of life. He, and He alone, reserves the right to create life and to take life away:
"See now that I, even I, am he, and there is no god beside me; I kill and I make alive; I wound and I heal; and there is none that can deliver out of my hand." (Deuteronomy 32:39)
However, this aspect of God is precisely what abortion seeks to declare of itself. It screeches with rebellious defiance, "I am God! I choose who lives and who dies!"
You see, the one who decides to have an abortion, and the one who performs the abortion, tries to play God: "I will be the one who chooses whether life exists or not."
And in playing God, abortion attempts to produce its own kind of perverted mercy and grace. Sitting upon its made up throne, it thinks it declares who is shown mercy and grace. To the helpless fetus that they rip limb from limb, they claim justice. To the helpless fetus that they "offer life", they claim mercy and grace.
It is important for you to know that I am not pulling this particular idea from any pro-choice source (pro-choice advocates would never willingly admit to this), but when you advocate for abortion and try to play God, this is what you are declaring.
I hope you can see how utterly disgusting and blasphemous this is.
3. Abortion Declares Itself the Supreme Judge of
Morality and Ethics

Why doesn't a pro-choice advocate understand that God is the only author of life (capable of giving life and taking life away) when you read them Genesis 1:26-27 or Genesis 2:7? Why doesn't the pro-choice advocate change his/her mind when you show them Psalm 139:13-16 or Jeremiah 1:5?
The short answer: they don't care.
People who are advocates for abortion do not care about God's law or His nature. If they did, they would certainly see why abortion is so horrific and deplorable. They do not see because abortion declares itself the supreme judge of morality and ethics.
In this culture of pluralism and relativism that we live in, God's law and God's character is not held in a very high esteem. Therefore, morality and ethics are whatever the culture declares them to be. For example, if culture says that murder is not wrong, then murder is not wrong.
The apostle Paul said to the Romans,
"For the wrath of God is revealed from heaven against all ungodliness and unrighteousness of men, who by their unrighteousness suppress the truth. For what can be known about God is plain to them, because God has shown it to them. For his invisible attributes, namely, his eternal power and divine nature, have been clearly perceived, ever since the creation of the world, in the things that have been made. So they are without excuse. For although they knew God, they did not honor him as God or give thanks to him, but they became futile in their thinking, and their foolish hearts were darkened. Claiming to be wise, they became fools, and exchanged the glory of the immortal God for images resembling mortal man and birds and animals and creeping things." (Romans 1:18-23)
And he said,
“None is righteous, no, not one; no one understands; no one seeks for God. All have turned aside; together they have become worthless; no one does good, not even one.” “Their throat is an open grave; they use their tongues to deceive.” “The venom of asps is under their lips.” “Their mouth is full of curses and bitterness.” “Their feet are swift to shed blood; in their paths are ruin and misery, and the way of peace they have not known.” “There is no fear of God before their eyes." (Romans 3:10-18)
This is the anthem of abortion. It is not as if abortionists are unaware of God or that they have never heard His precepts. They have heard them; and they proudly don't care about them. They are proud of the fact that they independently attempt to declare what is right and what is wrong.
However, they take it a step further. Contradicting their own understanding of relativism, they will not only try to declare what is right and what it wrong, they will violently try to take out anyone who disagrees with their opinion of right and wrong.
In a debate concerning abortion, I was literally once told that unless I had the anatomy of a female, I needed to shut my mouth. According to this individual, if you are a male (or really, anyone who doesn't adhere to their understanding), you have no right to weigh in on the abortion debate.
Lets take a moment and see how absurd this mode of reasoning is.
Now, I know that all I have to do to decide what is good and what is evil is to look at God's Word - its pretty simple. But even for the pro-choice advocate who has no regard for God's Word, suggesting that unless you have the anatomy of a female you can't weigh in on the argument should still make no sense.
Lets see what this mode of reasoning looks like when applied to other moral issues:
Rape
Would you really try to suggest to me that until someone is physically raped they can not rightfully declare that rape is bad?
Theft
Would you try to suggest to me that until I have had my house robbed I can't weigh in to whether stealing is immoral?
Genocide
Are you trying to say to me that unless I am a Jew that survived the holocaust I can't assert that what Hitler did was unjust?
....
The list of this absurdity could go on and on, but many pro-choice women shout this from the rooftops (I wonder if this mode of reasoning applies to the men in their life that are also pro-choice. Can a pro-choice man weigh in on the argument?).
The truth is that abortion, no matter how hard it tries to convince itself, is not the supreme judge of morality and ethics. And all I have to do to know and understand what is right and what is wrong is to seek what the Lord God almighty says is right and wrong.
If God says that abortion is a horrific catastrophe (and He does), then abortion is the worst and most horrific catastrophe of our time.
Conclusion:

I am not under the naive assumption that this article will change the mind of an abortion advocate (though if it does, praise God!). I feel sure that the pro-choice advocate clicked off of this article long before now. In fact, I imagine there is quite a slim chance that those who find nothing wrong with willfully and intentionally dismembering little baby boys and little baby girls in their mother's womb ever even clicked onto this article.
Therefore, I feel that I am under the pretty safe presumption that those still reading are at-least moderately pro-life.
This subject is important to me because I think that it is important for us to understand that though killing a child in a woman's womb is utterly abhorrent, abortion's desire to declare itself King - blasphemously seeking to steal God's sovereignty and glory - is a far worse charge.
The sons and daughters of God must rise up and stand for the unborn, but they must also stand in defense of the name of God. Abortion does not get to declare itself a moral alternative. Abortion must take its place in hell with the rest of sins that God declares abominable.
We serve the Lord of lords and the King of kings. He holds all sovereignty and all glory, and He does not bow the knee to anyone. Christians must know that though they live in a culture that screams the rally cry of rebellion, they serve a God that doesn't so much as blink at their attempts of assault.
